Traditional companies often fly blind, attempting innovation, new business models and structure without solid foundations. The results are now all too obvious. In nowadays rapidly-changing, increasingly inter-connected global economy, important driver of success is the creation of powerful business ECOsystem(s), this is the NextLevel of how the Dutch call it: ‘KETENsamenwerking’. To survive companies should collaborate in a so called network structure. Today’s business climate with its 17SDGs, requires ongoing innovation and rapid time to market – companies cannot get there on their own!
It’s all about the customer!
In today’s business it is no longer about the ‘why’, but about how organizations and brands are successful ‘by doing good’ – a fairly fundamental shift. In providing insight into the purpose, companies want more ‘giving meaning’ to ‘we wants to thoroughly address revitalization of the brand. According to research traditional models of strategy that emphasize ‘internal’ competencies fail to account for these dynamics because they focus on the evolution of firm capabilities, innovation, business models and Governance instead of on the relationship between the firm and its ‘external’ ECOsystem e.g the end customer (end-client) and suppliers. A business ECOsystem includes all stakeholders; shareholders, employees, including companies that are either horizontally or vertically linked to your business and provide complementary products/services that are used in conjunction with your offering (suppliers).
In the last ten years, the combination of readily available technology and capital has made the creation of business networks easy. Good examples are Apple, Uber, Airbnb, Facebook, Tesla, Amazon, and Alibaba. Despite being simple to create, business networks are still poorly understood and most often poorly managed.
Value creation
Business networks would enable unforeseen efficiencies in growth, innovation, operations, strategy and Governance. Nowadays companies still work un-sustainable. Network ‘effects’ create enormous value and large barriers to entry in businesses. There are still little literature and books how it tells how to manage vast networks of companies.
We are experiencing a dramatic shift from a focus on the value created by a single company and product / service to the evolution of the whole value system created by networks of companies or product / service ECOsystems (e.g. The numerous companies that are based on the Android operation system and the ECOsystem surrounding the iOS operating system) based on a wide range of innovative approaches, in which the internal assets and capabilities of each individual organization are blended with external entities.
Results
In short, DIOAcademy has the experience with international companies and can develop new strategies and a solid understanding of how networks and companies within them support or inhibit innovation, how they can enhance or damage operational productivity, and how they can provide healthy, sustainable environments for the creation of new companies and products/services.
Holistic view
DIOAcademy put forth a holistic view of strategy that fits the world of business ECOsystems in the highly interconnected world we live. We help students and (internation) companies describing different strategic modes. New strategies are shaped and coordinated by the ECOsystem, largely by the dissemination of platforms that form a foundation for ECOsystem innovations and operations. These contrast with dominator strategies, which attack the ECOsystem, absorbing and integrating external assets into internal operations. Niche strategies can be pursued by the much larger number of companies to make up the bulk of the ECOsystem. Companies emphasize differentiation by focusing on unique capabilities and leveraging key assets provided by others.
